Biocompatibility Testing and Evaluations: Meeting Target Deadlines in a Highly Constrained Environment

Fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ripple through our global economy. Quarantine and changing work environments have caused employees to reevaluate their roles, leading to the great resignation. Supply chain disruptions have caused cascading issues and delays. As in other industries, these stressors have increased turnaround times in biocompatibility and chemistry laboratories. These issues are affecting manufacturer’s abilities to hit regulatory deadlines, especially when animal tests are involved. This presentation will include options to evaluate biocompatibility without relying on these tests. Recent case studies will be discussed in which companies have thought outside the box to creatively address biocompatibility leading to quicker turn around and successful submission of their devices.
