Transportation and Distribution Performance

packaging & distribution testing study being performed at Nelson Labs

What is Transportation and Distribution Testing?

Transportation & Distribution testing simulation studies are a laboratory simulation of the general damage-producing motions, forces, conditions, and sequences of transport environments. This demonstration of product handling is required prior to market release. This test includes any shipping materials used to transport the product and complies with ATSM D4169, ISTA 2A, and ISTA 3A standards.

Study Outline

Simulation Transportation & Distribution testing is applicable across broad sets of circumstances, such as a variety of vehicle types and routes or a varying number of handling exposures. The study can include simple shaped random vibration, different drop heights, and atmospheric conditioning.

Recommended replicates: When requesting a quote for ship testing, please provide the external dimensions of the corrugated box to be used for the test and the quantity of corrugated boxes that will be exposed.

When selecting ISTA 2A testing, atmospheric conditioning is a requirement. Please include this information when requesting a quote. Recommended conditions can be found as part of the standard, or contact us and we can help you determine appropriate conditions.
