Most medical device manufacturers realize they need to have an environmental monitoring (EM) system within their facilities. The EM sets a count of microorganisms that are naturally in the environment. It provides a bacterial count of the environment. What it doesn’t do is tell you the types of microorganisms that you have seasonally throughout the year. A baseline ID provides that information and assists you in determining the cause of a bioburden failure or spikes in your EM.
