Nelson Labs will join global leaders in biocompatibility, toxicology, and regulatory science at Veranex Biocompatibility Insights 2026 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This year’s conference will explore the changing landscape of biological evaluation, with a strong focus on implementing ISO 10993-1:2025, clinical relevance in biocompatibility testing, toxicological risk assessment, emerging methodologies, and evolving regulatory expectations.
Nelson Labs experts will be onsite throughout the conference. Visit our tabletop display to connect with the team and discuss your biocompatibility challenges, biological evaluation strategies, and how the updated standard may impact your medical device program.

Title: The New Logic of Biological Evaluation, a “Risky” Conversation
Date & Time: To be announced
ISO 10993-1:2025 represents more than an update to the standard. It reflects a shift away from simply asking, “What tests do I need?” toward a more fundamental question: “Can I justify that this device is biologically safe?”
In this interactive session, Thor Rollins and Arthur Brandwood will explore what that shift means in practice and why effective biological evaluation increasingly requires the integration of chemical characterization, exposure assessment, toxicology, clinical evidence, and risk management rather than reliance on a prescriptive testing matrix.
The discussion will also look ahead to areas being addressed through future ISO/TC 194 WG1 work, including lifecycle biological safety, reasonably foreseeable misuse, repeated low-level exposures and bioaccumulation, and how exposure, probability, severity, and uncertainty can inform biological risk estimation.
Ultimately, the session will explore how manufacturers can move beyond simply performing more tests toward asking better questions, reducing uncertainty, and making scientifically justified biological safety decisions that protect patients while enabling innovation.
