Nelson Labs will join extractables and leachables experts from across the pharmaceutical and medical device industries at Extractables & Leachables Europe 2026, 9 – 11 November in Vienna, Austria.

This year’s conference will explore evolving scientific and regulatory expectations for E&L, with discussions spanning advanced analytical chemistry and compound identification, toxicological risk assessment, single-use systems, medical devices and combination products, and practical approaches to emerging E&L challenges.

Presenter: Philippe Verlinde, PhD, Principal Scientist, Nelson Labs
When: Wednesday, 11 November | 14h50 PM
Title: A Strategic Framework to De-Risk Unidentified Organic Extractables

Unidentified compounds detected during non-targeted analysis (NTA) can present a significant challenge when their potential toxicological risk is unknown particularly when they could belong to Cohorts of Concern or ICH Q3E Class 1 substances.

Philippe will present a structured, three-phase framework for systematically de-risking unidentified organic extractables. He’ll explore approaches ranging from structural class definition and targeted reference databases to expanded spectral-library searching using routine GC/MS and LC/MS workflows.

Attendees will learn how these tools can help strengthen compound identification and semi-quantification and support a more scientifically defensible assessment of potentially high-risk unknowns above the Analytical Evaluation Threshold (AET).

9 – 11 November, 2026
