Considerations for Current Extractable Chemistry Testing per ISO 10993-18

Abstract: Extractable chemical testing of medical devices (ISO 10993-18) is commonly used in conjunction with toxicological risk assessment (ISO 10993-17) to assess the toxicological risk of several biological endpoints, as an alternative to animal testing methods. This presentation discusses considerations that medical device manufacturers and their stakeholders should be informed of when selecting extractable chemistry test parameters and how that can impact cost compared to benefits of additional data generated for the toxicological risk assessment, with relation to current regulatory expectations.
