The UV/Vis test measures the amount of ultraviolet-visible light transmitted or absorbed by transparent or translucent glass, plastic materials, or the solutions resulting from extraction procedures of plastic materials used for pharmaceutical or medical containers.
This test is used when a container is intended to provide protection from light or is offered as a “light-resistant” container, and to ensure that extracts meet any absorbance specifications required. Nelson Laboratories can help with special requests when using UV/Vis Spectroscopy as a testing tool. This test complies with USP <851>, Spectroscopy and Light Scattering.

The UV/Vis test measures UV/Vis light by placing the specimen in the pathway of a light source (a tungsten filament and a deuterium arc lamp) and a detector. The transmittance or absorbance of the material may be measured with reference to air in the spectral region of interest.
