Environmental monitoring, swab samples, aerobic bacteria & fungi

Environments such as clean rooms and other work areas often require air quality analysis. The active air sampling provides a qualitative results which can be used for comparisons to indicate changes in the environment. Sample collection with cartridges permits the collection of organisms which will survive transportation on a non-growth supporting medium.

Surface monitoring is conducted to determine the microbial bioburden of surfaces within the manufacturing area as well as on equipment and product contact surfaces. The amount and frequency of samples monitored is dependent on the sponsor.

Testing methods can provide qualitative or quantitative information. The accuracy of the sampling is impacted by the collection and handling of samples, therefore sufficient training is essential to an effective sampling and testing program.

Cassette passive air samplers permit the collection of organisms which will survive transportation on a non-growth supporting medium. Passive monitoring techniques typically yield lower counts than active sampling methods. The organisms recovered from passive monitoring, are generally the most important and those which potentially present the greatest sterilization difficulties. Sampling intervals will be determined by the sponsor and provide a basis for trend analysis.
