Jeffery Nelson, Nelson Labs CEO, along with his parents, Dr. Jerry R. and Lynda S. Nelson, today received the first Economic Legacy Award from Utah Governor Gary Herbert and the State of Utah during the 2010 Utah Governor’s Economic Summit.
The award recognizes Nelson Laboratories’ significant contribution to the Utah economy and to the well-being and development of the State of Utah and its citizens.
During the Summit Jeff Nelson told Amanda Butterfield of KSL 5 News he is optimistic about the economy, “I’m an optimist. I feel things are starting to look better. We care a lot about the state—we feel it’s a great place to do business.”
The company currently employs over 300 people in Utah. With the completion of its new 50,000 sq. ft. building expansion of laboratory and office space, the company is poised for continued growth and anticipates bringing on more than 300 people over the next decade.
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development says in a statement about the award, “The Economic Legacy Award presented by the Governor and the State of Utah honors a company that has demonstrated over many years a concern for their employees, customers and the citizens of Utah through their actions, products and services. They have made a significant contribution to the economic development of their industry and the State of Utah. Such a company has brought esteem not only to themselves but to the State and its citizens through its integrity and its conduct in business.”
